Linux is an excellent all-around Operating System. Based on the UNIX OS, it has propagated so quickly
partly due to its scalability, stability and free price tag. It is not uncommon for a Linux server
to operate efficiently without major disruption
until the hardware dies. Where a Windows platform will require a reboot based on days,
a Linux Server might require a reboot based on months or even years. One of the major downsides
to Linux is the high labor costs for the installation and support. Linux technical personnel
tend to be harder to find as well as much more expensive than Windows support people.
You will be glad to know that we charge the same standard hourly rate for Linux and Windows labor.
We have done numerous Linux projects as outlined in our Case Studies
including the some of the following:
- Planning and deployment of SNORT, an Intrusion Detection System (IDS)
- Planning and deployment of Sendmail in an enterprise business
- Installation of a Linux Samba server for file and print sharing in a Windows environment
- Building and installing a custom offsite Linux FTP server
- Installation of a custom log file analysis server
- Planning and deployment of a turn-key production web server with Apache, PHP and MySQL
